    To whom was referred a Bill (H. 3614) to amend Section 56-3-1120, Code of Laws of South Carolina, 1976, relating to the issuance of a special license tag by the Department of Public Safety to a disabled American veteran, etc., respectfully

$0 (No additional expenditures or savings are expected)

EXPLANATION OF IMPACT:

    The Department of Public Safety states that it would cost approximately $39,534 in non-recurring state general funds to produce an estimated 7,000 plates with the additional wording.

SPECIAL NOTES:

    Per Proviso 36.7 of the FY 2000-01 Appropriation Act, the portion of the fee charged to cover costs incurred by the Department of Public Safety to produce these license plates must be credited to the General Fund of the State.

A BILL

TO AMEND SECTION 56-3-1120, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO THE ISSUANCE OF A SPECIAL LICENSE TAG BY THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY TO A DISABLED AMERICAN VETERAN, SO AS TO SUBSTITUTE "TAG" WITH "PLATE" AND TO PROVIDE THAT THE LICENSE PLATE MUST INCLUDE THE WORDS "DISABLED VETERAN" AND HAVE A SPECIAL NUMBER IMPRINTED ON IT SHOWING THAT THE LICENSE PLATE WAS ISSUED TO A DISABLED AMERICAN VETERAN.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Section 56-3-1120 of the 1976 Code is amended to read:

    "Section 56-3-1120.    The Department may issue a special license tag plate with the words 'Disabled Veteran' and a special number imprinted on it showing that such the license tag plate was issued to a disabled American veteran."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
