A BILL

TO AUTHORIZE THE MARION COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION TO CONSOLIDATE MARION COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICTS THREE AND FOUR, TO PROVIDE THAT THE CONSOLIDATED DISTRICT MAY BE KNOWN AS "MARION COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT SEVEN", AND TO PROVIDE FOR THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF SUCH CONSOLIDATED SCHOOL DISTRICT.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    The provisions of Section 6 of Act 607 of 1986, as last amended by Section 1 of Act 456 of 2000, or any other provisions of law to the contrary notwithstanding, the Marion County Board of Education may consolidate Marion County School Districts Three and Four pursuant to Section 59-17-50 and in accordance with the general procedures provided for school district consolidations in laws of this State.

SECTION    2.    If the Marion County Board of Education consolidates Marion County School Districts Three and Four, the resulting school district may be titled "Marion County School District Seven", if that name is set forth in the order of consolidation filed pursuant to Section 59-17-60. The board of trustees of the consolidated school district shall be composed of seven members appointed by the Marion County Board of Education in a manner consistent with existing provisions of state law.

SECTION    3.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
