A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO HONOR AND EXTEND SINCERE BEST WISHES TO MRS. JANIE L. BROWN SEABROOK, BELOVED WIFE OF WILLIAM SEABROOK, SR., AS THEY CELEBRATE HIS ONE-HUNDREDTH BIRTHDAY AND THEIR NEARLY SEVEN DECADES OF MARRIAGE.

Whereas, Janie Lee Brown Seabrook was born January 25, 1915, the fourth child of Wil Brown and Mamie Rivers Brown of Yonges Island, South Carolina; and

Whereas, she attended Sugar Hill Elementary School on Yonges Island, and later, in her adult years, enrolled in night school at Baptist Hill High School and earned her diploma; and

Whereas, "Mrs. Janie" as she is affectionately known, married William Seabrook on December 29, 1937, and they were blessed with ten children, one deceased, and thirty-one grandchildren, sixty-five great grandchildren, and seven great-great grandchildren; and

Whereas, "Mrs. Janie" learned to sew as a teenager and not only used this creative gift to make clothes for her family and friends, but also passed on the skill to her children; and

Whereas, although, "Mrs. Janie" worked hard to help support her family as a farm worker, housekeeper, and domestic worker, she continued to sew whenever she had the chance and later became a skilled quilt maker, often working several quilts at the same time; and

Whereas, a loyal and faithful member of Mt. Horr A.M.E. Church, and the oldest adult female of the congregation, she has served on a number of boards and committees over the years; and

Whereas, currently, "Mrs. Janie" is a class leader and stewardess in her church and she is active in various community organizations; and

Whereas "Mrs. Janie" also has passed onto her family her commitment to church and community. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina State Senate, by this resolution, honor and extend sincere best wishes to Mrs. Janie L. Brown Seabrook, beloved wife of William Seabrook, Sr., as they celebrate his one-hundredth birthday and their nearly seven decades of marriage.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Janie L. Brown Seabrook.
