TO RECOGNIZE AND CONGRATULATE CHARLES E. KENNEDY, DIRECTOR OF OCONEE ADULT EDUCATION IN OCONEE COUNTY, FOR BEING AWARDED THE HALL OF FAME AWARD FROM THE SOUTH CAROLINA ASSOCIATION FOR ADULT AND CONTINUING EDUCATION AND TO EXTEND BEST WISHES TO HIM IN ALL OF HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.
Whereas, the South Carolina Association for Adult and Continuing Education (SCAACE) Hall of Fame Award is awarded to an individual who has a minimum of fifteen years of service in adult education, has made noteworthy contributions to adult education, and whose contributions have made an impact beyond the local adult education level; and
Whereas, Charles E. Kennedy of Oconee County has been selected to receive the Hall of Fame Award; Mr. Kennedy has served more than thirty years as an Adult Education Director, which is possibly longer than any other director in South Carolina; and
Whereas, after earning a Master's Degree from Morehead State University, Mr. Kennedy became a director of Adult Education in Oconee County in 1974 and has been the director there ever since; and
Whereas, elected president of the SCAACE in 1988 and 1998, Mr. Kennedy also served as president of the South Carolina Association of Adult Education Directors (SCAAED) in 1999; and
Whereas, having held numerous positions in both the SCAACE and the SCAAED, Mr. Kennedy has also served as vice president for two years of a national organization, the American Association for Adult and Continuing Education and has been an active member for many years; and
Whereas, a leader in Workplace Education, Mr. Kennedy collaborated with Clemson University and West Point Stevens to make his program part of a National Workplace Literacy grant; he also has been an active effective advocate, spearheading efforts to increase adult education funding by over $1,000,000 in 1999; and
Whereas, Mr. Kennedy is also a member and a past president of the Seneca Rotary Club and has been actively involved in the United Way of Oconee, serving as Education Chairman for two years and Campaign Chairman in Oconee County; and
Whereas, Charles Kennedy's work in the field of adult education has been exceptional and his contributions extraordinary; his dedication and commitment to better the lives of countless South Carolinians through continued education should be applauded and emulated throughout the State. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, recognize and congratulate Charles E. Kennedy, Director of Oconee Adult Education in Oconee County, for being awarded the Hall of Fame Award from the South Carolina Association for Adult and Continuing Education and extend best wishes to him in all of his future endeavors.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Charles E. Kennedy of Oconee County.
