A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO HONOR AND CONGRATULATE MRS. ELIZABETH GUIN NIVENS ON THE OCCASION OF HER ONE HUNDREDTH BIRTHDAY AND TO EXTEND BEST WISHES TO HER FOR MANY MORE YEARS TO COME.

Whereas, Mrs. Elizabeth Guin Nivens was born May 25, 1904, and she will celebrate her one hundredth birthday this month in Fountain Inn, South Carolina; and

Whereas, married to the late Mr. Joseph Monroe Nivens for sixty-seven years, Mrs. Nivens is the loving mother of six children, Frances, Wanita, Joan, Donald, Kurtis, and David, and the doting matriarch to numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and

Whereas, a member of Canaan Baptist Church, Mrs. Nivens is the oldest living member of the mission program Girls in Action (GA) in South Carolina, which is a program for girls in grades one through six in the Baptist church; and

Whereas, a devoted mother who did not work outside the home while raising her six children, Mrs. Nivens was and still is an extremely talented seamstress who always sewed her children's clothes, including her daughters' wedding dresses; and

Whereas, Mrs. Elizabeth Guin Nivens has led an extraordinary life that has spanned an entire century and we could all learn from her vast wisdom and experiences. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, honor and congratulate Mrs. Elizabeth Guin Nivens on the occasion of her one hundredth birthday and extend best wishes to her for many more years to come.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Mrs. Elizabeth Guin Nivens of Fountain Inn.
