A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 22-2-13 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT A MEMBER OF THE SENATE WHO PRACTICES LAW BEFORE A MAGISTRATE MAY NOT PARTICIPATE IN THE SELECTION OF MAGISTRATES.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Chapter 2, Title 22 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 22-2-13.    Notwithstanding any other provision of law, a member of the Senate who practices law in the magistrates' courts may not participate in the selection of magistrates."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor and applies with respect to the practice of law in magistrates' courts on or after that date.
