A BILL

TO AMEND SECTION 40-15-70, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO THE DEFINITION OF THE PRACTICE OF DENTISTRY, SO AS TO CLARIFY THAT DENTAL PROCEDURES PERFORMED ON STRUCTURES ADJACENT TO THE ORAL CAVITY ARE PROCEDURES PERFORMED ON THE JAW AND SKULL RELATED TO ORAL HEALTH AND THAT THESE PROCEDURES DO NOT INCLUDE CERTAIN MEDICAL SURGICAL PROCEDURES.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Section 40-15-70(2)(a) of the 1976 Code is amended to read:

"(a)    shall profess or indicate in any manner that he can or will attempt to perform dental procedures in the oral cavity and associated adjacent structures of the jaw or skull, or both, relating to oral health, but which exclude medical surgical procedures including, but not limited to, biepharoplasty, rhytidectomy, otoplasty, liposuction, chemical peel, dermabrasion, and removal and aesthetic reconstruction of benign and malignant lesions on the head and neck; or"

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
