A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE SINCERE SORROW OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE DEATH OF NANCY DEAS PLAYER OF SUMTER, SATURDAY, AUGUST 3, 2002, AND TO CONVEY DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives were deeply saddened by the death of Nancy Deas Player of Sumter on August 3, 2002, at the age of eighty-two; and

Whereas, Mrs. Player was born in Sumter to Thomas Evander and Nancy Richardson Deas; and

Whereas, she was a devoted wife to Orville Van, "O.V.", Player, Junior, and loving mother of their three sons and one daughter; and

Whereas, Mrs. Player was active in the community and ardently campaigned for and supported her husband beginning with his first run for Sumter County Clerk of Court in 1972; and

Whereas, she frequently accompanied O.V. during his years of responsibilities and leadership with the South Carolina Association of Counties, and their partnership served as a loving role model for hundreds of married couples in public service; and

Whereas, Mrs. Player, a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sumter, was a member of the Circle, McLaurin-Berean Sunday School Class, and the Helen Murray Bible Study Group. Mrs. Player was awarded an Honorary Life Membership in the Presbyterian Women; and

Whereas, the House of Representatives extends its deepest sympathy to the family and many friends of Nancy Deas Player. She is survived by her husband, Orville Van Player, Junior; three sons, Orville Van Player III, Warren Thomas Player, and Spencer McGill Player; a daughter, Rebecca Player Bonner; a brother, A. Burchell Deas; a sister, Emily Deas Rhoden; and nine grandchildren, Carroll Player, Leslie Player, Thomas Player, Warren Player, William Player, Mary Ellen Player, Nancy Bonner, William Bonner, and Rebecca Bonner. Mrs. Player was predeceased by a brother, Thomas Evander Deas. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives, by this resolution, express their sincere sorrow upon the death of Nancy Deas Player of Sumter, Saturday, August 3, 2002, and convey deepest sympathy to her family and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Orville Van Player, Junior, of Sumter.
