A BILL

TO AMEND SECTION 1-11-730, AS AMENDED, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO ELIGIBILITY FOR COVERAGE UNDER THE STATE HEALTH AND DENTAL INSURANCE PLANS, SO AS TO ALLOW A MEMBER OF THE GOVERNING BOARD OF A SPECIAL PURPOSE DISTRICT AND HIS ELIGIBLE DEPENDENTS TO PARTICIPATE IN THE PLANS UPON PAYING THE FULL PREMIUM COST OF THEIR COVERAGE.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Section 1-11-730 of the 1976 Code, as last amended by Act 387 of 2000, is further amended by adding an appropriately lettered item at the end to read:

"( )    A member of the governing board of a participating special purpose district and his eligible dependents are eligible to participate in the plans by paying the full premium costs as determined by the State Budget and Control Board. Where a particular district is authorized by law to pay a portion or all of these premiums for board members, these amounts may be paid by the district rather than the board member."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
