A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO HONOR THE PHENOMENAL RACING KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS OF MR. WILL HOBGOOD OF WINNSBORO AND TO EXTEND THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO MR. HOBGOOD ON HIS NUMEROUS ACCOMPLISHMENTS WITH THE NASCAR GOODY'S DASH SERIES AS A DRIVER, CAR OWNER, AND CREW MEMBER CHIEF.

Whereas, learning to drive and care for a racecar takes incredible talent and determination and requires the cooperation and support of one's family and friends; and

Whereas, being a true champion in this sport involves not only winning races and accumulating points but also gaining the respect of other drivers and crew members within the NASCAR industry; and

Whereas, since becoming involved with this sport in 1986 at the age of 15, Mr. Will Hobgood of Winnsboro has been a leader in racing, claiming 129 dirt-track victories only two years after he began his career; and

Whereas, Mr. Hobgood made his asphalt-track debut in the NASCAR Goody's Dash Series at Daytona International Speedway in 1992 and a year later captured the winning position at that race; and

Whereas, in 1993, with only a few years of racing experience, Mr. Hobgood won several titles, including three pole positions, three overall victories, third place in Championship Series Points, Rookie of the Year, and the Lap Leader Award; and

Whereas, in the following year, he claimed five Busch Pole Awards, four victories, Most Popular Driver Award, first place in Championship Series Points, and the Lap Leader Award; and

Whereas, while becoming a star racecar driver, Mr. Hobgood and his wife, Loraine, raised three sons, two of whom are carrying on the family name and winning tradition in the NASCAR Goody's Dash Series; and

Whereas, with fifteen career wins, Mr. Hobgood stepped aside to allow his two sons, Justin and Jake, the opportunity to shine in the sport of racing, and he continues to support their dreams by being a car owner and the crew member chief; and

Whereas, Mr. Hobgood and his son, Jake, are only the fifth father-son team to win the Championship Title in NASCAR history and only the second to win the title in the Goody's Dash Series; and

Whereas, most recently, Mr. and Mrs. Hobgood were recognized at a NASCAR gala for their continued support of the sport and of their sons and were awarded the Championship Car Owner Trophy. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, wish to honor the phenomenal racing knowledge and skills of Mr. Will Hobgood of Winnsboro and to extend their congratulations to Mr. Hobgood on his numerous accomplishments with the NASCAR Goody's Dash Series as a driver, car owner, and crew member chief.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Will Hobgood of Winnsboro.
