A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE STUDENTS, FACULTY, AND STAFF OF E.L. WRIGHT MIDDLE SCHOOL IN COLUMBIA FOR BEING NAMED CAROLINA FIRST PALMETTO'S FINEST FOR BEING THE PREMIER MIDDLE SCHOOL IN THE STATE, AND TO COMMEND PRINCIPAL MICHAELE LEMROW FOR THE LEADERSHIP AND DIRECTION SHE HAS PROVIDED TO THE SCHOOL.

Whereas, E.L. Wright Middle School received the Carolina First Palmetto's Finest Middle School Award sponsored by Carolina First and the South Carolina Association of School Administrators; and

Whereas, the prestigious award, given to two elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school across the State, was presented to E.L. Wright Middle School during a ceremony at the Koger Center on Tuesday, March 11, 2003; and

Whereas, Michaele Lemrow, principal of E.L. Wright, has instilled in the students a sense of ownership in the school by allowing students to take responsibility for their school and set goals. Students also produce a morning news program and serve on the principal's council, a body that makes decisions for the school and gives input on the school's future; and

Whereas, another reason for the school's success is the talented and dedicated teachers and staff, who give of their time and experience to make the school the top middle school in the State; and

Whereas, E.L. Wright Middle School has received numerous awards in recent years including the Exemplary Writing School Award, the MidLink Magazine Cool School Award, the Red Carpet Award from the State Department of Education for being a family-friendly school, and numerous faculty awards, among others; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly sincerely congratulate E.L. Wright Middle School for its continued advancements and enhancements in education and for its recent impressive award. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commend and congratulate the students, faculty, and staff of E.L. Wright Middle School in Columbia for being named Carolina First Palmetto's Finest for being the premier middle school in the State and commend Principal Michaele Lemrow for the leadership and direction she has provided to the school.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to E.L. Wright Middle School in Columbia.
