A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE COZETTE STACY NOWAK OF FORT MILL ON WINNING THE MS. SOUTH CAROLINA SENIOR CLASSIC 2002, TO COMMEND HER FOR HER MANY CONTRIBUTIONS AS MS. SOUTH CAROLINA SENIOR AND TO THE COMMUNITY, AND TO WISH HER EVERY SUCCESS IN ALL OF HER FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, Mrs. Cozette Stacy Nowak is completing her reign as Ms. South Carolina Senior Classic, which involved many public appearances and community involvement. She also represented South Carolina at the National Senior American Classic Woman pageant in DuBuque, Iowa, where she was third runner-up for Woman of the Year 2002; and

Whereas, a native Southerner, Mrs. Nowak attended public schools in Gastonia, North Carolina. She is a graduate of Lenoir Rhyne College and attended college on a full academic scholarship presented by Gastonia's A.G. Myers Foundation. She obtained an associate degree in paralegal technology at Central Piedmont Community College; and

Whereas, Mrs. Nowak taught English for twenty-one years before retiring. She has also worked as a certified paralegal and a freelance writer; and

Whereas, as an active member in her community, Mrs. Nowak volunteers her time to many worthwhile causes including, the "Room at the Inn" homeless shelter, Habitat for Humanity, American Institute for Cancer Research, Mothers March on Polio, Pilgrims' Inn, Crisis Assistance Ministry, Metrolina Food Bank, senior center volunteer, mentor tutor, and library volunteer in public schools; and

Whereas, as a member of Alpha Delta Kappa, which is an honorary sorority for educators, Mrs. Nowak continues to show her dedication to education. She is also an active member with the American Association of Retired Persons and a faithful member of St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church; and

Whereas, Mrs. Nowak's hobbies and interests are serving others, reading, creative writing, collecting vintage Raggedy Ann dolls and first edition books by the doll's creator, travel, music and dance, interior design, gardening, and aerobic exercise; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are proud to honor Mrs. Cozette Stacy Nowak for her many achievements and contributions to the community. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, congratulate Cozette Stacy Nowak of Fort Mill on winning the Ms. South Carolina Senior Classic 2002, commend her for her many contributions as Ms. South Carolina Senior Classic 2002 and the community, and wish her every success in all of her future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Cozette Stacy Nowak of Fort Mill.
