VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO RECOGNIZE SERGEANT BILL FINCH OF THE LEXINGTON COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT FOR SERVICE ABOVE AND BEYOND THE CALL OF DUTY AS A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER WHILE RESPONDING TO A CALL WHICH RESULTED IN HIS SUSTAINING GRIEVOUS INJURIES.
Whereas, Sergeant Bill Finch was responding to a shots fired call at a bar on Highway 302. He approached the scene with his lights and sirens on. A vehicle crossed over into Sergeant Finch's lane, striking him head on; and
Whereas, the driver of the other vehicle was the suspect in the shots fired call and was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident. Sergeant Finch and the suspect had to be airlifted to the Palmetto Health Richland Trauma Center; and
Whereas; Sergeant Finch sustained a very deep bruise to the hip, a swollen ankle, and a swollen knee. He was out of work for several months due to the injuries he sustained in the line of duty; and
Whereas, Sergeant Finch was recognized by the Lexington County Sheriff's Department with the Purple Heart Award, and he also received the Purple Heart Award from the American Police Hall of Fame; and
Whereas, it is proper and fitting that the members of the House of Representatives recognize Sergeant Bill Finch for his courage and service to Lexington County and the State of South Carolina. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize Sergeant Bill Finch of the Lexington County Sheriff's Department for service above and beyond the call of duty as a law enforcement officer while responding to a call which resulted in his sustaining grievous injuries.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Sergeant Bill Finch of the Lexington County Sheriff's Department.
