A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE LEXINGTON HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLASTIC APTITUDE TEAM ON WINNING THE 2003 CLASS AAAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP, COMMEND THEM FOR THEIR COMMITMENT TO LEARNING AND ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE, AND WISH THEM EVERY SUCCESS IN THEIR FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, the Scholastic Aptitude Team of Lexington High School won the Region Four Class AAAA State Scholastic Aptitude Test Championship on Wednesday, February 26, 2003, by competing against Aiken, South Aiken, White Knoll, and Orangeburg-Wilkinson; and

Whereas, the Lexington Scholastic Aptitude Team went on to compete in the state competition held on March 12, 2003, at the University of South Carolina. Lexington High School defeated Irmo High School to become the Conference AAAA Scholastic Aptitude Team State Champions. This was the third year that Lexington High School had competed in the final round of competition, and in all of the previous rounds they also won the title. The final round involved more than one hundred fifty students from twelve schools; and

Whereas, both Lexington and Irmo competed with twenty-five students, and the top twenty scores were averaged to obtain the final score. These students took a specially designed two-hour, one hundred eighteen question exam that was divided into two sections of math and two sections of verbal questions; and

Whereas, superbly coached and inspired by Angie Freeman and Madonna Moore, and ably supported by Creig Tyler, Principal, the Lexington High School Scholastic Aptitude Team can be proud of not only being team winners of the 2003 Scholastic Aptitude Test championship competition, but of the talent, academic skills, and proficiency of team members Christina Austin, Ben Caldwell, Thomas Chandler, William Cossen, Olivia Culberson, Mark Deaton, Meredith Fore, Joel Fuziol, Robert Glass, Trever Hartley, Samantha Hayford, Kyle Johnson, Amy Karwan, Daniel Karwan, Alex Mackintosh, Daniel Mallory, Jessica Mann, Robert Meldau, Katie Puza, Jessie Shaffer, Tyler Tolleson, Xin Wang, Adam Wilson, Stephanie Wooten, Reed Zhao; and

Whereas, the Lexington High School Championship Scholastic Aptitude Team has indeed proved that South Carolina students can compete on the Scholastic Aptitude Test with any students in the country, and the entire Palmetto State can be proud of what these bright young people have accomplished. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, congratulate the Lexington High School Scholastic Aptitude Team on winning the 2003 Class AAAA State Championship, commend them for their commitment to learning and academic excellence, and wish them every success in their future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Coaches Angie Freeman and Madonna Moore on behalf of the members of the 2003 Class AAAA State Scholastic Aptitude Team Champions of Lexington High School.
