A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXTEND CONGRATULATIONS TO THE CHERAW HIGH SCHOOL "BRAVES" WRESTLING TEAM AND THEIR COACH, BRAD PORTER, FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING SEASON AND FOR CAPTURING THEIR FIRST STATE CHAMPIONSHIP IN A CRUSHING 62-15 VICTORY AT THE CLASS AA-A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP DUALS TITLE ON SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 15, 2003.

Whereas, participating in the sport of wrestling affords young people the opportunity to learn the importance of dedication and teamwork while developing amazing athletic talents; and

Whereas, becoming a champion in this sport requires every member of the team and coaching staff to have special leadership skills and physical abilities; and

Whereas, under the astute coaching of Head Coach Brad Porter and Assistant Coaches Eric Jones and Tim Adams, the Cheraw High School "Braves" Wrestling Team approached their season resolute and diligent in their efforts to achieve their common goal of winning the State Championship; and

Whereas, before advancing to the final match, Cheraw had to compete against three formidable teams from across the State. They met their first two opponents with courage and determination, defeating North Central High School 63-18 and Aynor High School 56-24, sending them off to the Lower State Championship, their final hurdle to competing in the state match; and

Whereas, the Braves had competed against Chesterfield High School twice in the regular season with Chesterfield prevailing in both matches, but the dedication and indomitable spirit of the Braves turned the tide at the Lower State Championship where Cheraw won a thrilling 41-40 victory over Chesterfield; and

Whereas, having won these three matches the team advanced to the State Championship Duals at Chapin High School on Saturday February 15, 2003. There the Braves crushed West-Oak High School and captured their first ever State Championship title with a 62-15 victory, finishing their season with 11 wins and 4 losses; and

Whereas, the members of the 2003 Cheraw High School "Braves" Wrestling Team are Adam Anderson, Bryan Blair, Alex Brown, Gary Campbell, Octavius Ellison, Josh Evans, Brad Gainey, Stanley Harper, Jermaine Harrington, Donte Isaac, Kyle Lewis, Dameon Pegues, Eddie Pegues, Jermaine Robinson, Sam Robinson, Russell Roscoe, Donnie Short, and Ron Smith; and

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that we recognize the outstanding performance and keen physical and mental abilities of these fine young South Carolinians and wish them great success in all their future endeavors. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, extend their congratulations to the Cheraw High School "Braves" Wrestling Team and their coach, Brad Porter, for their outstanding season and for capturing their first state championship in a crushing 62-15 victory at the Class AA-A State Championship Duals Title on Saturday, February 15, 2003.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the members of the Cheraw High School "Braves" Wrestling Team and Coach Brad Porter of Cheraw.
