A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND ONE OF THE MIDLANDS MOST RESPECTED NEWS CORRESPONDENTS, ADAM M. MURPHY OF WLTX-TV, UPON HIS DEPARTURE FROM THE STATION ON THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 20, 2003, AND TO WISH HIM THE VERY BEST IN ALL HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas,    the members of the Senate with regret have learned that Adam M. Murphy, a news correspondent with WLTX-TV, is leaving the station on Thursday, February 20, 2003; and

Whereas, he joined News 19 in January 2000 as State House reporter and immediately became known as a reporter who could be relied on to be fair and accurate. His no nonsense approach and ability to clearly communicate complicated legislative issues to viewers made Adam a State House favorite; and

Whereas, he also became a key member of News 19's On Your Side team where he became very well known for helping people get their problems solved. Adam Murphy and the On Your Side team provide the telephone number of an agency who can help or offer the viewer some simple advice on how to proceed with an issue. He and his team have done everything from getting wheelchair ramps built for the disabled to dealing with shoddy contractors; and

Whereas, Adam also did a lot of work on a News 19 feature called Big Money Monday. The segment highlights the millions of dollars in unclaimed funds being held by the State. In the broadcast segment, Adam and State Treasurer Grady Patterson present an unsuspecting Midlands resident with a check representing money he or she didn't realize they were owed. In addition, on each Monday evening newscast, a list of people owed money by the State is highlighted and viewers are urged to check the State Treasurer website. Since the program began, Big Money Monday has helped Midlands residents reclaim over a million dollars; and

Whereas, one of the best known Adam Murphy segments is News 19's Restaurant Report Card. Over the past two and one-half years, in cooperation with the Department of Health and Environmental Control, he has reported the letter grades of Midlands restaurants from a ten-county area. The Department of Health and Environmental Control credits News 19's Restaurant Report Card with making area restaurants safer; and

Whereas, Adam Murphy is a person who has truly made a difference in the lives of countless residents of the Midlands, and the members of the Senate, by this resolution, would like to commend this truly talented newscaster upon the conclusion of his service with WLTX-TV. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate commend one of the Midlands most respected news correspondents, Adam M. Murphy of WLTX-TV, upon his departure from the station on Thursday, February 20, 2003, and wish him the very best in all his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Adam M. Murphy.
