A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE PRIVATE FIRST CLASS SUZAN GARDNER UPON BEING NAMED MYRTLE BEACH POLICE OFFICER OF THE YEAR FOR 2003 AND TO COMMEND HER FOR BEING AN OUTSTANDING LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER AND AN ASSET TO HER COMMUNITY AND STATE.

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives are pleased to learn that Private First Class Suzan Gardner has been named Rotary Club of Myrtle Beach Officer Joe McGarry Memorial Police Officer of the Year for 2003; and

Whereas, the award recognizes the outstanding performance of a police officer, honoring the memory of the courage and dedication of the late Officer Joe McGarry who was killed in the line of duty December 29, 2002; and

Whereas, Officer Gardner is presently assigned to the Administrative Division as the Crime Prevention/Analysis Officer, but this title in no way begins to describe the numerous professional and personal activities she is involved with; and

Whereas, in 2002, she made approximately six hundred business contacts not including her weekly visits to area businesses, and attended sixty-six safety seminars and meetings on various topics. She also makes contact with the victims of crime either by phone, letter, or visit. Her letters offer to answer any questions they may have and the personal visits and calls bring along some helpful tips to avoid future victimization; and

Whereas, while doing all of this, she still manages to collect and distribute statistics on the varying crimes and forwards patterns, suspect information, and updates on what is happening within the city; and

Whereas, Suzan Gardner is an active instructor with a specialty in criminal domestic violence. She is also the primary force behind the Field Training Officers Program and designed the instruction book the department is presently using. She also plays a big role in organizing and participating in Hardee's Family Night and other child fingerprinting programs and goes to many children's festivals hosted by the City of Myrtle Beach; and

Whereas, it is obvious that Suzan Gardner has a genuine love for her career, and has implemented many positive programs throughout the Myrtle Beach community; and

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives, by this resolution, would like to publicly recognize and commend this outstanding officer upon her receipt of this truly deserved award. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives congratulate Private First Class Suzan Gardner upon being named Myrtle Beach Police Officer of the Year for 2003 and commend her for being an outstanding law enforcement officer and an asset to her community and State.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Private First Class Suzan Gardner.
