A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND AND CONGRATULATE THE MEMBERS, COACHES, AND OTHER OFFICIALS OF THE CLAFLIN UNIVERSITY WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD TEAM FOR WINNING THE 2003 EASTERN INTERCOLLEGIATE ATHLETIC CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP, AND TO WISH THEM MUCH SUCCESS IN THEIR FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, the sport of track and field affords young people the opportunity to learn the importance of dedication and teamwork while developing amazing athletic talents that can carry on into their future lives; and

Whereas, using these talents, in concert with pure drive, determination, and countless hours of hard work, the members of the Claflin University Women's Track and Field Team became the 2003 Eastern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Champions; and

Whereas, with an outstanding performance from a top notch team and the superb coaching of Head Coach Jeffrey Hughes and Assistant Coach Albert Odom, these dedicated women also claimed the Region 14 title in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics competition; and

Whereas, members of this winning track and field team are Shaunyetta Alston, Tina Doe, Jessica Fountain, Harriett Green, Jessica Hodge, Bernita Lunn, Vesha Miller, Joyce Robinson, and Alisha Vaughn; and

Whereas, it is with great pride and immense pleasure that we recognize the physical and mental abilities of these young South Carolinians and hope that they will use those skills both on and off the track and field and in their future endeavors. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commend and congratulate the members, coaches, and other officials of the Claflin University Women's Track and Field Team for winning the 2003 Eastern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship and wish them much success in their future endeavors.
