A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE ERIC YOUNG OF UNION ON BEING NAMED TO THE PARADE ALL-AMERICAN FOOTBALL TEAM FOR 2002, COMMEND HIM FOR THE HARD WORK AND DEDICATION IT TOOK TO BECOME ONE OF THE BEST HIGH SCHOOL OFFENSIVE LINEMEN IN THE NATION, AND WISH HIM EVERY SUCCESS IN ALL OF HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, before Eric Young stepped onto a football field, people saw his star athletic potential. Assistant coach Keith Lancaster watched Young throw a discus and shot put as a freshman, noticed Young's size and great balance, qualities essential to becoming an effective offensive lineman; and

Whereas, Eric Young's potential was quickly realized as a high school football player. Playing for Union High School for three seasons, he dominated the offensive line. He was recently named to the Parade All-American football team; and

Whereas, some recruiting analysts gave Young an All-American label before the past season started. They were not disappointed as Eric went on to lead the team with thirty-three pancake blocks, was named to the Shrine Bowl team, the all-state team, the all-area team, and was a finalist for South Carolina's Mr. Football award; and

Whereas, Mr. Young is one of the most sought after recruits in the nation. He visited Maryland, Clemson, and the University of South Carolina. After visiting several schools, he decided to attend the University of Tennessee. And, in the spirit of true sportsmanship, Eric's fellow South Carolinians will wish him well in his endeavors there; and

Whereas, Eric Young's athletic prowess is not limited to the football gridiron. He won the State AAA shot put championship last year, an event in which he finished second in his sophomore year. Mr. Young is the second Parade All-American in Union's history, following a fellow teammate, Roscoe Crosby, who was selected in 2001; and

Whereas, the Senate is proud to honor Eric Young for his outstanding athletic and other accomplishments during his high school career, and for his contribution, dedication, and hard work that helped the Union High School "Yellow Jackets" football team finish the 2000 season with one loss and a fourteen game winning streak to win their second consecutive state Class AAA Football Championship in 2001, and runner-up for the Class AAA Football Championship in 2002. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate, by this resolution, congratulate Eric Young of Union on being named to the Parade All-American Football Team for 2002, commend him for the hard work and dedication it took to become one of the best high school offensive linemen in the nation, and wish him every success in all of his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Eric Young of Union.
