A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND MRS. JEANETTE M. RAMBO FOR HER OUTSTANDING SERVICE AS A MEMBER AND PAST CHAIRMAN OF THE DARLINGTON COUNTY DISABILITIES AND SPECIAL NEEDS BOARD AND FOR HER DISTINGUISHED SERVICE TO HER COMMUNITY, COUNTY, AND STATE ON BEHALF OF THOSE CITIZENS LESS ABLE TO DO FOR THEMSELVES.

Whereas, Mrs. Jeanette M. Rambo of Hartsville for many years has helped to enhance the lives, develop the abilities, and promote the independence of individuals with disabilities and special needs; and

Whereas, she is a long-time member of the Darlington County Disabilities and Special Needs Board to which she has been appointed by four different Governors and of which she served as chairman from 1991-1996; and

Whereas, she was raised in Bristol, Tennessee, graduated magna cum laude from King's College with degrees in science and education, and completed graduate studies at the University of Virginia; and

Whereas, Jeanette Rambo first came to Hartsville in 1950 when she and her husband, E. E. "Red" Rambo, moved there to operate Rambo Shoes; and

Whereas, she co-founded the Hartsville Area Council for the Mentally Retarded in 1967, which later became the Hartsville Development Center and the Lou Scott Center; and

Whereas, Mrs. Rambo has served as board member of the Whitten Center Parent Council and as a board member and secretary of the Pee Dee Center Parent Council. She also served on the South Carolina Developmental Disabilities Council from 1983-1991, and as a delegate from the Disabilities Council on the National Association of Developmental Disabilities; and

Whereas, as a member of the Hartsville Civinette Club, she was twice named as Civinette of the Year, was President of the Turnage Civitan Club four times, and is currently a member of the Hartsville Civitan Club; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, would like to publicly recognize and thank this truly wonderful and caring lady for her service on the Darlington County Disabilities and Special Needs Board and for all her other work on behalf of her fellow citizens. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly recognize and commend Mrs. Jeanette M. Rambo for her outstanding service as a member and past chairman of the Darlington County Disabilities and Special Needs Board and for her distinguished service to her community, county, and State on behalf of those citizens less able to do for themselves.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Rambo.
