A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXTEND THE APPRECIATION OF THE MEMBERS OF GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO R. GLENN HILLIARD ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AS CHAIRMAN AND CEO OF ING AMERICAS, FOR HIS MANY ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND FOR HIS YEARS OF SERVICE TO THE GREAT STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA, AND TO WISH FOR HIM YEARS OF HEALTH AND HAPPINESS IN FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, it is appropriate to recognize the achievements of South Carolinians who have succeeded in business and who have worked to improve the quality of life in South Carolina; and

Whereas, R. Glenn Hilliard is a native of Anderson, South Carolina, and received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Clemson University in 1965 and earned his Juris Doctor Degree from George Washington University Law School in 1968; and

Whereas, Mr. Hilliard is married to Heather Prevost of Anderson and they have lovingly reared three daughters, Kathrynn, Nancy, and Glenn; and

Whereas, Mr. Hilliard began his career in South Carolina at Liberty Life Insurance Company, rising over the course of twenty years in South Carolina to become Chairman and CEO of that great company; and

Whereas, Mr. Hilliard recently retired from ING after serving as Chairman and CEO of ING Americas, one of the world's largest diversified financial services companies, and for which his responsibilities included the insurance, funds, and retail banking operations in North and South America; and

Whereas, Mr. Hilliard has spent much of his life working to preserve and protect the forests and rivers of this great State; and

Whereas, one of Mr. Hilliard's proudest achievements is the completion of the Foothills Trail across the upstate of South Carolina, for which he worked tirelessly from its inception in the early 1970's until its completion in 1989; and

Whereas, he is one of the founders and long time president of the Foothills Trail Conference, an organization for which his efforts were recognized with the naming of the Hilliard Falls waterfall along the trail; and

Whereas, Mr. Hilliard has been very active in the community and involved in many organizations across the State, having served as founding chairman of the Board of Visitors for the South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts, member of the Board of Directors for the Clemson University Foundation, and member of the Board of the Greenville Art Museum, among others. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly extend their appreciation to R. Glenn Hilliard on the occasion of his retirement as Chairman and CEO of ING Americas, for his many accomplishments and for his years of service to the Great State of South Carolina, and wish for him years of health and happiness in future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to R. Glenn Hilliard, of Atlanta, Georgia.
