A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND ALBERT B. JOLLY, JR., FOR HIS PERSONAL COMMITMENT TO PUBLIC SERVICE AND THE MANY CONTRIBUTIONS HE HAS MADE TO HIS COMMUNITY AND STATE HEADING THE SPARTANBURG ARCHITECTURAL FIRM OF JOLLY AND ASSOCIATES.

Whereas, Albert B. Jolly, Jr., graduated from Clemson University's College of Architecture in 1970 and gained his initial professional experience working with the offices of J. E. Sirrine Company in Greenville and Lyles, Bissett, Carlisle, and Wolf in Columbia; and

Whereas, his experiences with these large offices convinced him of the need for small design firms that are better positioned to be responsive to the needs of clients; and

Whereas, Mr. Jolly realized his vision of a small, hands-on design office by establishing the architectural firm of Jolly and Associates in Spartanburg where he has served as sole proprietor for twenty-nine years; and

Whereas, Jolly and Associates has distinguished itself through excellence in design and attention to fine detail, establishing long-term relationships with clients and contractors, and engaging in work that has spread the influence of the firm to fourteen states throughout the South; and

Whereas, Mr. Jolly began his independent career designing a new restaurant concept that would evolve into Quincy's Family Steakhouses, and restaurants would continue to occupy a prominent place in his business as his firm has provided architectural services to FATZ Cafes, McGuffey's Restaurants, and the Lizard's Thicket restaurant chain; and

Whereas, Jolly and Associates has done excellent work on a wide range of architectural projects including office complexes, shopping centers, large private homes, a planned residential community, an industrial campus, and, as sole architects for the Atlanta-based chain of Jameson Inns, almost two hundred motels in the southeast; and

Whereas, the work of Jolly and Associates has won design awards on the state and local levels, the most recent being the City of Spartanburg's 1999 Excellence in Design Award for the Lister & Hawkins Law Offices; and,

Whereas, his influence in the Spartanburg community also extends to serving on the Spartanburg City Planning Commission and seventeen years on the County Planning Commission, with ten of those years spent as chairman during a time when most of the county's zoning control ordinances were developed and implemented; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly would like to publicly recognize and commend this very talented individual for his long and distinguished career as one of South Carolina's best architects. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, commend Albert B. Jolly, Jr., for his personal commitment to public service and the many contributions he has made to his community and State heading the Spartanburg architectural firm of Jolly and Associates.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Albert B. Jolly, Jr.
