A JOINT RESOLUTION TO PROVIDE THAT SCHOOL DAYS MISSED IN 2002-2003, BY THE STUDENTS OF THE FOUR SCHOOL DISTRICTS IN YORK COUNTY WHEN THE SCHOOLS WERE CLOSED DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER CONDITIONS MAY BE MADE UP BY EXEMPTING THEM FROM THE MAKE-UP REQUIREMENT OF THE DEFINED MINIMUM PLAN THAT FULL SCHOOL DAYS MISSED DUE TO EXTREME WEATHER OR OTHER CIRCUMSTANCES BE MADE UP, AUTHORIZE EXTENDING THE LENGTH OF SCHOOL DAYS OR MAKE-UP DAYS ON SATURDAYS, OR AUTHORIZE THE DISTRICTS TO USE COMBINATIONS OF THESE AS APPROPRIATE FOR A PARTICULAR SCHOOL, AND TO REQUIRE THE PLANS CHOSEN TO BE APPROVED BY THE LOCAL SCHOOL BOARD.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

Missed school days excused

SECTION    1.    (A) Up to three school days missed in 2002-2003, by the students of the four school districts in York County when the schools were closed due to inclement weather conditions may be made up by:

(1)    exempting them from the make-up requirement of the defined minimum plan that full school days missed due to extreme weather or other circumstances be made up;

(2)    extending the length of currently scheduled school days equivalent to the amount of time found in a normal instructional day;

(3)    attending school on Saturdays; or

(4)    using a combination of items (1), (2), and (3) which may be selected as an appropriate choice for a particular school district.

(B)    Individual school plans are subject to the approval of the local school board.

Time effective

SECTION    2.    This joint resolution takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
