VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO AMEND SECTION 38-71-140, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO HEALTH INSURANCE COVERAGE OF NEWBORNS, SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT SUCH COVERAGE INCLUDES MEDICALLY NECESSARY FORMULAS AND FOOD PRODUCTS FOR TREATMENT OF PHENYLKETONURIA (PKU).
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. Section 38-71-140(B) of the 1976 Code is amended to read:
"(B) The coverage for a newly born child consists of coverage of injury or sickness including the necessary care and treatment of medically diagnosed congenital defects and birth abnormalities and includes medically necessary formulas and food products for treatment of phenylketonuria."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
