VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO COMMEND AND CONGRATULATE THE PICKENS HIGH SCHOOL LADY BLUE FLAME VOLLEYBALL TEAM FOR AN OUTSTANDING SEASON AND FOR WINNING THEIR THIRD CONSECUTIVE STATE AAA CHAMPIONSHIP, AND TO HONOR COACH PEGGY ANTHONY FOR HER EXCELLENT 25-YEAR COACHING CAREER.
Whereas, the members of the Senate of the State of South Carolina honor the Pickens High School Lady Flame Volleyball Team for their impressive winning season, which culminated in their third consecutive AAA State Championship victory over Camden High School on November 9, 2002; and
Whereas, in the past three seasons, the team has compiled a 38-0 record in Region 1-AAA and a 73-0 regular season and playoff record, not including invitational tournament play; and
Whereas, team members are Elizabeth Rivers, Carolyn Rivers, Lauren Blackwell, Karey Kelley, Katie Bridges, Kelli Constance, Augusta Bryant, Erin Owens, Rebecca Wilson, Sarah Javdan-Inalloo, Erin Winchester, Kathryn Clayton, Magen Peterson, Nikki Anthony, Megan Hendricks, Shannah Hughes, and Jessica Gravely; and
Whereas, the team is supported by Head Coach - Peggy Anthony, Assistant Coaches - Janet Phillips and Mellie Durham, Managers - Luke Baker, Levi Reed and Heath Fields, Statistician - Karen Winchester, Principal - Marion Lawson, Assistant Principals - Hamp Summey, Linda Wnukowski and Kurt Fields, and Athletic Director - Steve Corn; and
Whereas, the end of the season marked the retirement of Pickens High School Volleyball Coach, Peggy Anthony, after 25 years of coaching. This third consecutive state title was also the ninth state title for Coach Anthony, whose career record stands at 737 wins and 150 losses; and
Whereas, it is appropriate for the members of the Senate to pause in their deliberations so that they might recognize and honor the Pickens High School Lady Blue Flame Volleyball Team and Coach Peggy Anthony on their record season and championship win. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the Senate of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commend and congratulate the Pickens High School Lady Blue Flame Volleyball Team for an outstanding season and for winning their third consecutive State AAA Championship, and to honor Coach Peggy Anthony for her excellent 25-year coaching career.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Pickens High School.
