A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE LILLIE LEWIS OF GREENVILLE ON BEING NAMED MIDDLE SCHOOL PRINCIPAL OF THE YEAR BY THE SOUTH CAROLINA ASSOCIATION OF SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS, COMMEND HER FOR HER HARD WORK AND DEDICATION TO IMPROVING PUBLIC EDUCATION, AND WISH HER EVERY SUCCESS IN ALL OF HER FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, Mrs. Lillie Lewis came to Parker Academy in 1998 from Sirrine Elementary. Under her leadership, Parker Academy has seen the creation of programs to involve families in their children's education and an increase in student commitment to learning; and

Whereas, creating a partnership with Furman University provided tutors and allowed a dozen African-American male students to attend summer camp at Furman. Leadership Greenville, a Greenville Chamber of Commerce program, provides speakers and field trips to Parker Academy to help the school improve; and

Whereas, Mrs. Lewis developed a professional library to support faculty improvement and established after-hours tutoring and classes. The result has been an across-the-board improvement on the Palmetto Achievement Challenge Test; and

Whereas, a model for the combined effects of inspiration, dedication, and plain hard work, Mrs. Lewis is an inspired leader with incredible vision and tenacity that helps her stand out from her peers; and

Whereas, Parker Academy Principal Lillie Lewis has been named the state's middle school Principal of the Year by the South Carolina Association of School Administrators and will represent South Carolina in two national middle level Principal-of-the-Year programs. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, congratulate Lillie Lewis of Greenville on being named Principal of the Year by the South Carolina Association of School Administrators, commend her for her hard work and dedication to improving public education, and wish her every success in all of her future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Lillie Lewis of Greenville.
