VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO CONGRATULATE THE MEMBERS OF THE 2003 FORT MILL HIGH SCHOOL BAND AND THEIR DIRECTOR, MARTIN DICKEY, ON THEIR ACHIEVEMENTS OF EXCELLENCE IN MUSIC ON BEING NAMED CLASS AAAA STATE CHAMPIONS AND ONE OF THE TOP TWENTY-FIVE BANDS IN AMERICA AND TO COMMEND THEM ON THEIR HARD WORK AND DEDICATION.
Whereas, being a member of the band allows young people to showcase their artistic and musical abilities while giving them the opportunity to work together as a team to achieve a common goal; and
Whereas, to become a champion band, all members of the band must have outstanding leadership and musical abilities as well as a unique insight into the world of music as a whole; and
Whereas, under the able guidance and musical talents of Head Director, Martin Dickey, and Associate Director, Sean Carney, the Fort Mill High School Band far surpassed their competition to win the AAAA Championship at the Boiling Springs Festival of Bands; and
Whereas, after taking second place at the Bands of America Southeast Regional Competition in Tennessee, the Fort Mill Band went on to become the Grand Champions at the Western Carolina University Tournament of Champions in North Carolina; and
Whereas, continuing on the path to victory, the Fort Mill Band captured the State Class AAAA Championship Title at the competition in Batesburg, South Carolina, and that win granted the band an invitation to the Bands of America Grand National Championships held in Indiana; and
Whereas, the Fort Mill High School Band finished as a semi-finalist in the competition and became one of the top twenty-five nationally ranked high school bands, a feat that is not easily achieved; and
Whereas, the Fort Mill High School Band members and their directors are to be commended for their countless hours of practice, their enthusiasm and team spirit, and their commitment to excellence; and
Whereas, through their extraordinary efforts, and with the support of their family, friends, and community, these talented young band members have achieved national recognition and brought great pride to their school, community, and the State of South Carolina. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate the members of the 2003 Fort Mill High School Band and their Director, Martin Dickey, on their achievements of excellence in music on being named Class AAAA State Champions and one of the top twenty-five bands in America and commend them on their hard work and dedication.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the members of the 2003 Fort Mill High School Band and Band Director, Martin Dickey.
