A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 59-29-240 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT THE STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION SHALL PROVIDE FOR EACH PUBLIC SCHOOL OF THE STATE TO TRAIN ITS STUDENTS TO DEFEND THEMSELVES AGAINST POTENTIAL KIDNAPPERS, ABDUCTORS, AND PREDATORS.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Chapter 29, Title 59 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 59-29-240.    The State Board of Education shall provide for each public school of the State to train its students to defend themselves against potential kidnappers, abductors, and predators. This must include, but not be limited to, age-appropriate instruction in:

(1)    physical self-defense;

(2)    verbal defense; and

(3)    situations to avoid."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
