A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR JAMES RONALD "RONNIE" WARD UPON HIS RETIREMENT AS MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DARLINGTON AFTER TWENTY YEARS OF SERVICE AND TO EXTEND TO HIM BEST WISHES IN ALL HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that we recognize South Carolinians who are dedicated to giving their time and energy to help build a sense of togetherness and support among the people of their communities; and

Whereas, it is appropriate to recognize the great achievements of the people who serve in the political arena and govern the citizens of the Palmetto State; and

Whereas, Mr. James Ronald "Ronnie" Ward has been serving the community of Darlington for twenty consecutive years as mayor, and his service and commitment to the citizens of Darlington will be sorely missed upon his retirement; and

Whereas, elected at the age of thirty-six, Mr. Ward has seen the city grow and prosper throughout the years and has dealt with the economic upswings and downfalls that affect any city with creative business initiatives that have kept Darlington stable; and

Whereas, involving himself in many civic organizations, Mr. Ward was able to take notice of potential changes that would improve Darlington and was better able to communicate with the people he served; and

Whereas, his involvement in organizations such as the YMCA and McLeod Hospital will continue after he leaves office, and Mr. Ward will no doubt continue to work to make the city of Darlington a better place to live and work; and

Whereas, while in office Mr. Ward succeeded in initiating construction of boardwalks and other improvements in Williamson Park, renovating the Julius Dargan House and turning it into city administration offices, and implementing the Streetscape Project to clean up the downtown area, making it visually attractive and a destination spot for the citizens of Darlington; and

Whereas, throughout the past twenty years, James Ronald "Ronnie" Ward has served the residents of the City of Darlington to the best of his ability, and his commitment and dedication to Darlington have created a lasting impact on the residents of this great city and his presence as mayor will be sorely missed. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and honor James Ronald "Ronnie" Ward upon his retirement as Mayor of the City of Darlington after twenty years of service and extend to him best wishes in all his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. James Ronald "Ronnie" Ward of Darlington.
