A BILL

TO AMEND SECTION 56-3-7750, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO FRATERNITY AND SORORITY SPECIAL LICENSE PLATES, SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT THE DEPARTMENT OF MOTOR VEHICLES MUST RELEASE THE NAMES AND ADDRESSES OF INDIVIDUALS WHO HAVE BEEN ISSUED A SPECIAL LICENSE PLATE TO ITS SPONSOR UNDER CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Section 56-3-7750 of the 1976 Code, as added by Act 63 of 1999, is amended by adding at the end:

"(E)    Upon obtaining a written request from a fraternity or a sorority that sponsored a special license plate pursuant to this article, the department must release to the sponsor the names and addresses of each individual who has been issued a special license plate from the respective fraternity's or sorority's series of license plates at no charge."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
