A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE SINCERE SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA UPON THE DEATH OF SUCCESSFUL PROSECUTOR, RESPECTED ATTORNEY, LOYAL FRIEND, AND FAMILY MAN, JAMES C. "JIM" ANDERS OF COLUMBIA, ON SATURDAY, MARCH 6, 2004, AND TO CONVEY THEIR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the General Assembly was deeply saddened by the death of James C. "Jim" Anders of Columbia on Saturday, March 6, 2004, at the age of sixty-two; and

Whereas, Mr. Anders was born in Greenville on December 13, 1941, to Louise Williams Anders and the late James Anders, Sr.; and

Whereas, a graduate of Greenwood High School, the University of South Carolina, and the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1967, Jim Anders served in the United States Army from 1967 until 1968, when he began his ten-year tenure as a commissioned officer in the United States Naval JAG Corps Reserve; and

Whereas, during this time, Mr. Anders was an Assistant Attorney General for the State of South Carolina until 1970 when he entered private practice; and

Whereas, Mr. Anders was elected Solicitor of the Fifth Judicial Circuit in 1974, where he reigned over Richland and Kershaw counties' cases until 1991. Prosecuting serial killers, televangelists, legislators, politicians, and nude dancers during his four terms as Solicitor, Mr. Anders revolutionized the way cases are prosecuted and was known by colleagues for his great instincts and reflexes; and

Whereas, after leaving public life in 1991, Mr. Anders became successful in the private law arena and opened his own practice in 1996, which now has offices in Columbia, Rock Hill, and Aiken; and

Whereas, under his tutelage, Mr. Anders' clerks and employees have gone on to become successful lawyers in many different areas, and his legacy continues as his influence has touched the lives of all who have come in contact with him; and

Whereas, active in professional organizations, Jim Anders was involved in the National District Attorneys Association, the South Carolina Bar Association, the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, and was a member of the board of the South Carolina Trial Lawyers Association. He was also a Shriner and a member of Masonic Lodge 326; and

Whereas, Mr. Anders was recognized in 2003, for his outstanding civic service to the State of South Carolina when he received the Order of the Palmetto by Governor Jim Hodges; and

Whereas, Jim Anders will be missed most by the family and friends he left behind, including his mother, Louise Williams Anders of Myrtle Beach; his wife, Clair Parker Anders; daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara "Barbie" and John Eric Fulda of Columbia and Amy and Ceth Land of Manning; son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Allison Anders of Columbia; son, Adam Anders of Columbia; grandchildren, Jamie Land, Caroline Land, Anders Land, and Addison Anders; and brothers, Donnie Anders of North Myrtle Beach and Michael Anders of Columbia. He was predeceased by a daughter, Susan Anders. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, express their sincere sorrow upon the death of successful prosecutor, respected attorney, loyal friend, and family man, James C. "Jim" Anders of Columbia, on Saturday, March 6, 2004, and convey their deepest sympathy to his family and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the family of Mr. James C. Anders.
