VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO RECOGNIZE AND CONGRATULATE THE MYRTLE BEACH CIVITAN CLUB AND ITS MEMBERS, OFFICERS, AND FRIENDS ON THE OCCASION OF ITS SIXTY-FIFTH ANNIVERSARY AND TO COMMEND THIS OUTSTANDING CLUB, THE OLDEST CIVIC CLUB IN MYRTLE BEACH, FOR ITS WONDERFUL CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE MYRTLE BEACH COMMUNITY ON THIS GREAT OCCASION.
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are pleased to learn that the Myrtle Beach Civitan Club will celebrate its sixty-fifth anniversary at a luncheon to be held on Tuesday, April 13, 2004, at the Dunes Club; and
Whereas, the Myrtle Beach Civitan Club is the oldest civic club in Myrtle Beach and was organized on April 14, 1939. At this time, formal application was made to Civitan International for a chapter. The organizational meeting was held at Villa Ambrose on North Ocean Boulevard. There were twenty-two charter members of the Myrtle Beach Civitan Club; and
Whereas, following its organizational meeting, the club met at the Kentucky Inn on Wednesdays until the outbreak of World War II. Because of the war, the club was inactive during the years 1942-1944. Following the war, a reorganization meeting took place in 1945 at the old USO Building, and the club has been an active part of the Myrtle Beach community ever since; and
Whereas, projects carried on over the years by members of the Myrtle Beach Civitan Club have been designed to improve the quality of life for the people of the Grand Strand. These projects include sponsorship of Junior Civitan and Civinette clubs, establishment and maintenance of the Stowe Crouse Scholarship Fund, helping developmentally and physically disabled children, and contributing financially to a number of local charitable organizations; and
Whereas, "To build good citizenship by providing a volunteer association of clubs dedicated to serving individual and community needs with an emphasis on helping people with developmental disabilities" is the mission statement of Civitan International, and few Civitan Clubs anywhere have fulfilled this mission as well as the Myrtle Beach Civitan Club; and
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, would like to extend greetings and best wishes to 2003-2004 President Tom Bridgeman and to the other officers, members, and friends of this outstanding civic club on the occasion of its sixty-fifth anniversary. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly recognize and congratulate the Myrtle Beach Civitan Club and its members, officers, and friends on the occasion of its sixty-fifth anniversary and commend this outstanding club, the oldest civic club in Myrtle Beach, for its wonderful contributions to the Myrtle Beach community on this great occasion.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to President Tom Bridgeman.
