A HOUSE RESOLUTION

RECOGNIZING THE HOLLY HILL-ROBERTS BASKETBALL "BULLDOGS" ON THEIR SOUTH CAROLINA AAA BOYS' STATE TITLE WIN IN THEIR FINAL GAME PLAYED REPRESENTING HOLLY HILL-ROBERTS HIGH SCHOOL OF ORANGEBURG COUNTY.

Whereas, the Holly-Hill Roberts Basketball "Bulldogs" went ahead for good on a three-pointer with three minutes to go in their AAA state title game against J. L. Mann; and

Whereas, their 66-61 championship effort was met with thunderous applause, as the "Bulldogs" played the last high school basketball game as a team for Holly Hill-Roberts; and

Whereas, Holly Hill-Roberts and Elloree High Schools will combine next year as Lake Marion High School; and

Whereas, this blazing finish for the Holly Hill school recalls its dynasty days under Coach Artie Knight, whose teams won three consecutive state titles in the mid-1970s; and

Whereas, their proud and tradition-filled basketball legacy was called upon by Head Coach Roy Brown, the entire "Bulldog" team -- with nine players scoring in double figures, and the emotional crowd of supporters; and

Whereas, the title win is all the sweeter for ending the long respected basketball program's existence with an exclamation point. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize the Holly Hill-Roberts Basketball "Bulldogs" on their South Carolina AAA Boys' State Title win in their final game played representing Holly Hill-Roberts High School of Orangeburg, County.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Holly-Hill-Roberts Basketball "Bulldogs" and Head Coach Roy Brown.
