A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE AND HONOR MR. ODELL WILLIAMS OF SUMTER ON BEING NAMED SCOTTISH RITE MASON OF THE YEAR AND TO EXTEND BEST WISHES TO HIM IN ALL OF HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, there have often been leaders who have led through quiet demeanor and unassuming ways, and it is appropriate to recognize these leaders among us in the Palmetto State; and

Whereas, it is an honor to congratulate and commend those individuals who give unselfishly of both their time and energy to teach the word of the Lord; and

Whereas, Grand Inspector General Odell Williams of C. C. Johnson Consistory #136 was named the Scottish Rite Mason of the Year for 2004, and it is his consistent service and willingness to help others that led to this coveted award; and

Whereas, married to the former Ms. Nancy Wilson, Grand Inspector General Williams has six children with his former wife, the late Ms. Annie Mae Butler, and he is recently retired from Goodwin Buick/Jeep, Inc. after forty-eight years of service; and

Whereas, a member of the St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church of Sumter, Grand Inspector General Williams has and is serving the church in a number of capacities, including Superintendent of Church School for more than fifteen years, Sunday School Class Leader, Treasurer of the Steward Board, President of the Deliverance Choir, and Financial Secretary of the Layman's Organization; and

Whereas, due to his dedication to the church, Grand Inspector General Williams was recognized as Layman of the Year for the Northeast Conference of the African Methodist Episcopal Church in 1991 and the Layman of the Year for St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church in 2000; and

Whereas, Grand Inspector General Williams' past Masonic affiliations include Past Master of Red Hill Lodge #144, Chairman of the By-Laws Committee and a member of the Audit Committee, Recording Secretary for the C. C. Johnson Consistory #136, and Recording Secretary for the Commanders of the Rite; and

Whereas, a member of the Cairo Temple #125, Grand Inspector General Williams was also Vice President of the Sumter Shrine Club, High Priest of David Wells Chapter #39, and Holy Royal Arch Masons and Chairman of Masonic District No. 7 Charity Committee; and

Whereas, on April 25, 1993, Grand Inspector General Williams was honored by being elevated to the Last and Thirty Third Degree of the United Supreme Council, and he has received numerous awards for his service to the Order including the Outstanding and Dedicated Service Award from Red Hill Lodge #144 in 1992, 1993, and 2002; and

Whereas, in 2003, Grand Inspector General Williams also received the Meritorious Service to C. C. Johnson Consistory #136 and the Outstanding Service Award from the Sumter Shrine Club; and

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives are pleased to have the opportunity to recognize such an outstanding South Carolinian whose great works have brought much pride and recognition not only to the C. C. Johnson Consistory #136, but also to the Sumter Community and the Masonic Community at large. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate and honor Mr. Odell Williams of Sumter on being named Scottish Rite Mason of the Year and extend best wishes to him in all of his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Grand Inspector General Odell Williams of Sumter.
