A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO EXTEND THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA TO CORTNI BRACKEN OF PICKENS COUNTY ON BEING NAMED THE 2003 SOUTH CAROLINA YOUNG CAREERIST OF THE YEAR AND TO EXTEND BEST WISHES TO HER IN ALL OF HER FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives were pleased to learn that Cortni Bracken was named the 2003 South Carolina Young Careerist of the Year by the South Carolina Business and Professional Women's Organization representing Pickens County; and

Whereas, after attending the National Business and Professional Women's Conference last summer, where she competed with forty representatives across the country in a speech competition and interview process, Ms. Bracken was named a semifinalist in the National Young Careerist Competition; and

Whereas, a graduate of the University of South Carolina, Ms. Bracken has received a Legislative Award for her lobbying efforts on behalf of child welfare and she is currently the Public Relations and Events Coordinator for Prevent Child Abuse Pickens County and the United Way; and

Whereas, in addition to her work with Prevent Child Abuse Pickens County, Ms. Bracken has also done extensive work in the area of child abuse prevention, including developing a statewide prevention program for young people called Palmetto Champs, and her work has been recognized by both State and national leaders; and

Whereas, Ms. Bracken is also the three-time winner of the South Carolina Cares for Children Scholarship, and is the recipient of the Most Outstanding School Program Award, USC's Outstanding Community Service Award, and the winner of the Prevent Child Abuse South Carolina's Child Advocate Award; and

Whereas, a five-year winner of the Miss America State Community Service Scholarship, Ms. Bracken was also the first runner-up to Miss South Carolina 2001, and she is a former page for Senator Larry Martin; and

Whereas, Ms. Bracken has shown an outstanding level of commitment to serving both her community and her State, and her compassion and dedication to the children of the Palmetto State has been unparalleled. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, extend their congratulations to Cortni Bracken of Pickens County on being named the 2003 South Carolina Young Careerist of the Year and extend best wishes to her in all of her future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Cortni Bracken of Pickens County.
