A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE MEMBERS OF THE 2003 IRMO HIGH SCHOOL BAND AND THEIR DIRECTOR, KEN TURNER, ON THEIR ACHIEVEMENTS OF EXCELLENCE IN MUSIC ON BEING NAMED CLASS AAAAA STATE CHAMPIONS AND ONE OF THE TOP TWENTY-FIVE BANDS IN AMERICA AND TO COMMEND THEM ON THEIR HARD WORK AND DEDICATION.

Whereas, being a member of the band allows young people to showcase their artistic and musical abilities while giving them the opportunity to work together as a team to achieve a common goal; and

Whereas, to become a champion band, all members of the band must have outstanding leadership and musical abilities as well as unique insight into the world of music as a whole; and

Whereas, under the able guidance and musical talents of Head Director, Ken Turner, and associate directors, David Woodard and Lorrie Turner, the Irmo High School Band placed third in AAA at the Bands of America Regional Competition in Atlanta, the Irmo High School Band became the Grand Champions at the Shelby Golden Classic in North Carolina; and

Whereas, the Irmo High School Band captured the State Class AAAAA Championship Title for the tenth consecutive year at the competition in Rock Hill, and that win preceded the band's trip to the Bands of America Grand National Championships held in Indiana; and

Whereas, the Irmo High School Band finished as a semi-finalist in the competition and became one of the top twenty-five nationally ranked high school bands, a feat that is not easily achieved; and

Whereas, the Irmo High School Band members and their directors are to be commended for their countless hours of practice, their enthusiasm, team spirit, and their commitment to excellence; and

Whereas, through their extraordinary efforts, and with the support of their families, friends, and community, these talented young band members have achieved national recognition and brought great pride to their school, community, and the State of South Carolina. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate the members of the 2003 Irmo High School Band and their Director, Ken Turner, on their achievements of excellence in music on being named Class AAAAA State Champions for the tenth consecutive year and one of the top twenty-five bands in America and commend them on their hard work and dedication.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the members of the 2003 Irmo High School Band and Band Director, Ken Turner.
