A HOUSE RESOLUTION

APPLAUDING THE SOUTH AIKEN HIGH SCHOOL "THOROUGHBREDS" ON THEIR THIRD CLASS AAAA STATE TEAM GOLF TITLE IN THE PAST FIVE YEARS AND SENIOR CAPTAIN PATRICK CUNNING WHO TOOK TOP INDIVIDUAL HONORS IN A SUDDEN-DEATH PLAYOFF.

Whereas, South Aiken High School's golfers teamed up for a score of 888 and an eight-point win at the Furman University links to take the Class AAAA South Carolina team title; and

Whereas, the three-round total was the second lowest tally posted in the tournament in the past thirty years; and

Whereas, the championship crown was the third for the "Thoroughbreds" in the past five years, and their fifth state win overall; and

Whereas, Coach Jeremy West noted that all his "guys" had a "pretty good two days" to fashion the team win; and

Whereas, individual honors went to senior Captain Patrick Cunning, the first South Aiken medalist since Brennen King's back-to-back wins in 1994 and 1995; and

Whereas, All-Stater Cunning's win came on the par 5 second hole of a sudden-death playoff, set up by a short chip inside six feet of the cup; and

Whereas, second to Cunning's even-par 72 was the 75 posted by senior alternate Robert Cross; returning starter for 2005, All-State Eric Radford tied for sixth, Ian Price finished in a tie for 11th, and Jayson Hinkson finished in the top twenty; and

Whereas, the State of South Carolina is proud to acknowledge the dedication and discipline of its athletes. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, applaud the South Aiken High School "Thoroughbreds" on their third Class AAAA state team golf title in the past five years and senior Captain Patrick Cunning who took top individual honors in a sudden-death playoff.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to South Aiken High School "Thoroughbreds" Golf Team and Coach Jeremy West.
