A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE GEORGE M. SMITH OF COLUMBIA UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT FROM THE WIL LOU GRAY OPPORTUNITY SCHOOL AFTER TWENTY-FIVE YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE AND TO WISH HIM MUCH SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN ALL OF HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, Mr. George M. Smith is known for his dedication to the Wil Lou Gray Opportunity School and commitment to the purpose of the school. He has published two booklets regarding the school that chronicle the Wil Lou Gray Opportunity School and detailing the biographies of successful graduates of the Wil Lou Gray Opportunity School; and

Whereas, student scholarships were established by Mr. Smith for the Wil Lou Gray Foundation through a highly successful annual community auction and direct solicitation campaign. He also designed and implemented a highly effective marketing strategy that resulted in record enrollment and maximum program awareness throughout South Carolina; and

Whereas, Mr. Smith designed the web site for the Wil Lou Gray Opportunity School that continues to provide school information to interested students, and he recorded the pictorial history of the chronological sites of the South Carolina Opportunity School from its early years to the present; and

Whereas, on the occasion of his retirement, the Senate is pleased to recognize and honor the distinguished career of service of George M. Smith, exemplified by his commitment to the Wil Lou Gray Opportunity School and his work with the undereducated throughout the Palmetto State. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate, by this resolution, congratulate George M. Smith of Columbia upon the occasion of his retirement from the Wil Lou Gray Opportunity School after twenty-five years of dedicated service and wish him much success and happiness in all of his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to George M. Smith of Columbia.
