A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO EXTEND THE APPRECIATION OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA SENATE TO DR. SANDRA MCLENDON OF GREENVILLE FOR HER HARD WORK AND DEDICATION TO PARKER ACADEMY AND TO CONGRATULATE HER ON RECEIVING THE SOUTH CAROLINA ASSOCIATION OF SCHOOL LIBRARIANS' 2003 MEDIA SPECIALIST OF THE YEAR AWARD.

Whereas, skilled school librarians are instrumental in providing a complete education to the youth of this State; and

Whereas, the members of the Senate are proud to recognize individuals for their diligence and determination in educating South Carolina's students and hold in high regard those people who are awarded for excellence in their fields; and

Whereas, Dr. Sandra McLendon of Greenville is the school librarian of Parker Academy, and she offers her creative energy to find innovative ways to work with teachers and students to enhance the educational programs of the school and to provide them with the best possible resources in many different areas; and

Whereas, Dr. McLendon was named a Library of Congress Fellow through Furman University and the Adventure of the American Mind, and through that program demonstrated to teachers the usefulness of the American Memory Collection; and

Whereas, she was instrumental in developing a mobile laptop project at Parker Academy, has worked to find ways to update the school's library books, and has been dedicated to improving the technology of the classrooms; and

Whereas, the activities of Dr. McLendon's media center program at Parker Academy include grant writing, reading initiatives, a daily morning news show, collection development, and reading mentors with a business partner, Southern Weaving; and

Whereas, for her creative and important work, Dr. McLendon was honored by the South Carolina Association of School Librarians which named her the 2003 Media Specialist of the Year. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, extend their appreciation to Dr. Sandra McLendon of Greenville for her hard work and dedication to Parker Academy and congratulate her on receiving the South Carolina Association of School Librarians' 2003 Media Specialist of the Year Award.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Dr. Sandra McLendon of Greenville.
