A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE FRANCIS MARION UNIVERSITY MEN'S GOLF TEAM ON WINNING THE 2003 NCAA DIVISION II MEN'S GOLF NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT HELD AT THE CROSSWATER GOLF CLUB IN SUNRIVER, OREGON.

Whereas, the members of the Senate were delighted to learn that the Francis Marion University Men's Golf Team has won its first-ever national golf title by winning the NCAA Division II Men's Golf National Championship Tournament in hard fought competition ending May 23, 2003, at the Crosswater Golf Club in Sunriver, Oregon; and

Whereas, the four-day, 72-hole tournament included eighteen teams and twelve individuals and was contested on the par 72, 7,296-yard Crosswater Club course; and

Whereas, in claiming the title, the Francis Marion University team led at the end of every round, chalking up solid performances by team members who bested competitors from the University of North Alabama, California State University at Stanislaus, and the defending national champions from Rollins College; and

Whereas, the Patriots of Francis Marion University recorded the low team round on both Tuesday and Thursday of the tournament, posted the second-lowest round on Wednesday, and were the only team to post three sub-par rounds; and

Whereas, this tournament was the third trip by the Patriots to the national championship since joining Division II in 1992; and

Whereas, this all-around team effort by seniors Matt Dura, Dylan Keylock, and Juan Pablo Bossi, and juniors Per Hallberg and Fredrik Ohlosson, all of whom competed in the 2002 tournament when the Patriots finished in tenth place, brought this outstanding victory; and

Whereas, under the able leadership of Coach Jonathan Burnett, the Francis Marion Golf Team has become a force to be reckoned with within Division II; and

Whereas, it is appropriate for members of the Senate to pause in their deliberations so that they might add their voices to the chorus of congratulations expressed to the members of this team for this outstanding accomplishment. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate, by this resolution, express their congratulations to the Francis Marion University Men's Golf Team for the team's victory in the 2003 NCAA Division II Men's Golf National Championship Tournament.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Francis Marion University Men's Team.
