TO CONGRATULATE DR. STEVE AARON WILSON OF COLUMBIA ON BEING NAMED SECONDARY PRINCIPAL OF THE YEAR FOR THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA, TO COMMEND HIM FOR HIS THIRTY YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE AND OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTIONS TO EDUCATION IN SOUTH CAROLINA AND TO WISH HIM MUCH SUCCESS IN ALL OF HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.
Whereas, Dr. Steve Wilson, Principal of Keenan High School of Richland School District I has been named the 2003 Secondary Principal of the Year by the South Carolina Association of School Administrators; and
Whereas, Dr. Wilson began his career in 1974 as a Science and Agriculture teacher at McCrorey-Liston High School in Fairfield County, later becoming the principal of Newberry High School and an assistant principal at Orangeburg High School and at Fairfield Central High before coming to Keenan; and
Whereas, he was selected as Principal of the Year for, among other things, his extraordinary educational leadership, expertise in resolving complex problems, and ability to promote professional development in others, and in himself and for his extensive community service in myriad professional organizations; and
Whereas, since Dr. Wilson's arrival at Keenan High School in 1998, Dr. Wilson's innovative thinking and progressive ideas have brought to fruition programs for mentoring and tutoring, homework help, and college preparation; and
Whereas, one of his outstanding leadership accomplishments has been a unique collaboration with the University of South Carolina's College of Engineering with whom he has developed the Raider Engineering and Academic Leadership (REAL) program; and
Whereas, REAL is designed to improve students' interest and achievement in math and science and raise their awareness of new career possibilities, while allowing them to earn dual high school and college credits and a special engineering diploma; and
Whereas, plans for the new $40 million Keenan High School will provide labs and computer technology to advance the school's REAL program, as well as serving as fertile ground for Dr. Wilson's ceaseless commitment and creative contributions to the advancement of education in South Carolina; and
Whereas, Dr. Wilson is a devoted husband and beloved father of two children and is a faithful member of Weeping Mary Baptist Church in Blair; and
Whereas, Dr. Wilson lends his knowledge, skill, and leadership to many professional associations including the National Association of Secondary School Principals, South Carolina Association of School Administrators, South Carolina Secondary Principals Association, and the AAA Athletic Conference, as well as serving our country as a Major in the United States Army Reserves; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are proud to honor Dr. Steve Wilson for being named the Secondary Principal of the Year for South Carolina and to recognize him for his many outstanding contributions to the field of education in South Carolina. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate Dr. Steve Aaron Wilson of Columbia on being named Secondary Principal of the Year for the State of South Carolina, commend him for thirty years of dedicated service and outstanding contributions to education in South Carolina, and wish him much success in all of his future endeavors.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Dr. Steve Wilson of Columbia.
