A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND CONGRATULATE MISS TRISTA KUTCHER OF MOUNT PLEASANT FOR HER OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE AT THE SPECIAL OLYMPICS SUMMER WORLD GAMES IN DUBLIN, IRELAND, IN JUNE OF 2003, WHERE SHE WON TWO GOLD MEDALS, A SILVER MEDAL, AND TWO BRONZE MEDALS, AND TO WISH HER MUCH SUCCESS IN HER FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, Trista Kutcher, the fourteen-year-old daughter of ReBecca and Joe Kutcher, has worked hard to win the chance to compete in the Special Olympics Summer World Games that were held in Dublin, Ireland; and

Whereas, Trista began tumbling at the age of two with her current coach and mentor, Susan Breland, who took her to her first Special Olympics when Trista was seven; and

Whereas, after outstanding gold medal performances in her South Carolina Special Olympic events, Trista qualified for the Summer World Games where she immediately set her sights on higher goals; and

Whereas, Trista was chosen to lead all the gymnasts in the Special Olympic oath on the opening day of the competition and was interviewed by a television station, which gave her immediate recognition among the Irish public; and

Whereas, her excellent performances won Trista gold medals in the beam and the vault, a silver in the uneven bars, and bronze medals in the floor exercises and the overall competition; and

Whereas, with her heartfelt applause and sincere congratulations for the other competitors, Trista exhibited the Special Olympic spirit with grace and humility; and

Whereas, the members of the Senate would like to recognize this truly exceptional young lady for her dedication, determination, poise, and charm not only in competing, but also succeeding in the Special Olympics. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and congratulate Miss Trista Kutcher of Mount Pleasant for her outstanding performance at the Special Olympics Summer World Games in Dublin, Ireland, in June of 2003, where she won two gold medals, a silver medal, and two bronze medals, and wish her much success in her future endeavors.
