A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR MR. JAMES H. DONALD, OF GREENVILLE, SOUTH CAROLINA, FOR HIS MUSICAL ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND TO EXTEND TO HIM BEST WISHES IN ALL OF HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, it is appropriate to recognize those South Carolinians who have achieved success in the music world and to commend them on their dedication and hard work to be distinguished as great in their chosen field; and

Whereas, James H. Donald, affectionately known as "Chef," is a native of Greenville, South Carolina, and is a graduate of Sterling High School and a former undergraduate of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville; and

Whereas, while at the University of Tennessee, Mr. Donald studied music and was a member of the University of Tennessee Concert Choir for three consecutive years and his musical experience there as a choir member included a southern tour and a short European tour, performing in Paris and at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Germany; and

Whereas, Mr. Donald's performance with the University of Tennessee choir included excerpts from "The Messiah" with Robert Shaw conducting and solo parts in a "Jester Hairston Concert" with Jester Hairston conducting; and

Whereas, as a 2002 finalist in a national singing contest, Mr. Donald was a featured singer on the "America's Rising Stars" Television Show, viewed by over five million households, and he was also a featured contestant on the internet for one full year and was a First Place Winner in the "Best Male" category; and

Whereas, as a third year member of one of the most recognized and well-reviewed chorales in the southeast, the Greenville Chorale conducted by Dr. Bingham Vick, Mr. Donald has been able to continue his forty-four year music career well beyond his college days; and

Whereas, in addition to his choral abilities, Mr. Donald is also a published poet, lyricist, percussionist, and Latin percussionist, and he has been using his talents to serve the Greenville community since childhood and continues to be a musical servant of the community; and

Whereas, on November 1, 2003, Mr. Donald released his new Christian CD, "Songs From Grass Roots," a giant step toward his ambition to become an international Christian recording artist which would enable him to help make the world a better place by ministering in song to the hearts and minds of people all over the world; and

Whereas, Mr. Donald is a United States Air Force Vietnam Era Veteran and his service in the Air Force has only reinforced his commitment to ministering to people across the globe in an effort to spread both peace and love through song; and

Whereas, it is fitting and proper for the members of the General Assembly to pause in their deliberations to recognize the accomplishments of this Son of the Palmetto State. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and honor Mr. James H. Donald of Greenville, South Carolina, for his musical accomplishments and extend to him best wishes in all of his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. James H. Donald of Greenville, South Carolina.
