A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SENATE UPON THE DEATH OF CAPTAIN TODD ORR OF CHESTER, A BRAVE AND COURAGEOUS FIREFIGHTER, ON MONDAY, MARCH 15, 2004, AND CONVEY THEIR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the Senate were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Captain Todd Orr of Chester at the age of forty-two;

Whereas, Captain Orr was a twenty-four-year veteran of the Chester City Fire Station and was hired in March 1980 after two years as a volunteer firefighter; and

Whereas, Todd Orr served the Chester community unselfishly as he was always willing to help those in need; and

Whereas, throughout Captain Orr's twenty-four years of service, he continuously showed tremendous courage in the face of danger; and

Whereas, he participated in the Smoke Alarm Program for Chester residents by presenting smoke alarms to new mothers at the Chester County Hospital; and

Whereas, Todd Orr took great pride in the Fire Prevention Program and participated at many events including school presentations and community affairs which gave him the opportunity to speak to the people of Chester about fire safety and prevention; and

Whereas, he always made sure that fellow firefighters were safe while reaching fires and as he was greatly loved and respected by fellow firefighters and affectionately known as "Foot"; and

Whereas, Todd Orr lived life to the fullest enjoying both hunting and fishing in his spare time and was a member of the Chester A.R.P. Church, Chester Civitan Club, the Home Builders Association, and the Chester Golf Association; and

Whereas, he was also the owner and operator of Todd Orr's Custom Home Builders; and

Whereas, Captain Orr had a great sense of humor and was known for playing practical jokes on friends; and

Whereas, he was a devoted husband to his wife, Judy, and a loving father to his two sons, Chris and Josh; and

Whereas, it is both proper and fitting that the members of the Senate pause in their deliberations to note the passing of this dedicated firefighter and son of the Palmetto State. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate, express the profound sorrow of the members of the Senate upon the death of Captain Todd Orr of Chester, a brave and courageous firefighter, on Monday, March 15, 2004, and convey their deepest sympathy to his family and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to his widow.
