A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXTEND BEST WISHES TO DEVOTED EDUCATOR AND VOLUNTEER, MARY R. HARDY OF COLUMBIA, ON THE OCCASION OF HER SEVENTIETH BIRTHDAY AND TO WISH HER MANY MORE YEARS OF HEALTH AND HAPPINESS.

Whereas, Mary R. Hardy was born in Columbia on December 22, 1932, and was raised in the historic Waverly Community; and

Whereas, Ms. Hardy was educated in Richland School District One and graduated from C. A. Johnson High School in 1948. While working at the old Columbia Hospital, she went on to graduate from Allen University in 1954; and

Whereas, Mary Hardy began her career as a first grade teacher at Carver Elementary School, during which time she received a Master of Education Degree in 1970 from the University of South Carolina; and

Whereas, after twenty years of teaching first grade, Ms. Hardy moved to the Richland School District One Central Office to work with Title I, later known as Chapter I, and retired as Chapter I Coordinator in 1988; and

Whereas, looking for a new career, Ms. Hardy received her real estate license and began selling real estate in the Columbia area, but was drawn back to teaching first grade in 1990 at V. V. Reid Elementary School, where she became principal in 1995; and

Whereas, Ms. Hardy retired in 1999 and is currently selling real estate, volunteering with Meals on Wheels, and traveling the world; and

Whereas, Ms. Hardy has been active in her community in Jack and Jill of America, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, National Education Association, Ridgewood Ladies Golf Club, and Friendship Baptist Church, which she has attended since childhood; and

Whereas, Mary Hardy, a dedicated educator of children, has two children of her own, James B. Hardy, IV, and Jolanda Marie Hardy; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are pleased to wish Mary R. Hardy a very happy seventieth birthday; and

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, extend best wishes to devoted educator and volunteer, Mary R. Hardy of Columbia, on the occasion of her seventieth birthday and wish her many more years of health and happiness.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mary R. Hardy of Columbia.
