A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND AND CONGRATULATE THE HONORABLE CHARLES "CORKEY" PATE OF MCBEE FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF UNSELFISH PUBLIC SERVICE AS THE LONGEST SERVING MAGISTRATE IN THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA, AND EXTEND BEST WISHES TO HIM AND HIS FAMILY UPON HIS RETIREMENT AS MAGISTRATE JUDGE OF CHESTERFIELD COUNTY.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are proud to recognize the Honorable Charles "Corkey" Pate of McBee for his unselfish service to the people of Chesterfield County; and

Whereas, Judge Pate began his term as a county magistrate for Chesterfield County after winning an advisory election in 1959 and was appointed by then-Governor Fritz Hollings on July second; and

Whereas, Judge Pate worked for forty-three years as a part-time magistrate in Chesterfield County, the only county to employ part-time magistrates, until he retired June 30, 2002; and

Whereas, during the course of his career, Judge Pate was involved in the many changes in the duties of magistrates and was a source of advice to those with difficult problems. Judge Pate will be sorely missed for the valuable service he has provided; and

Whereas, Judge Pate plans to go on some trips in his free time over the next few years; he wants to take a few cruises and go on road trips with friends. Judge Pate also enjoys raising goats as a hobby; and

Whereas, the citizens of Chesterfield County and the State of South Carolina are indebted to the Honorable Charles "Corkey" Pate for his many contributions as the longest serving magistrate in the State of South Carolina. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly commend and congratulate the Honorable Charles "Corkey" Pate of McBee for his many years of unselfish public service as the longest serving magistrate in the State of South Carolina and extend best wishes to him and his family upon his retirement as magistrate judge of Chesterfield County.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Honorable Charles "Corkey" Pate of McBee.
