A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE MEGAN MARIE DOOLEY OF LEXINGTON, SOUTH CAROLINA, UPON WINNING THE COVETED CROWN AND TITLE OF THE "SOUTH CAROLINA HOMECOMING QUEEN" IN THE AMERICA'S HOMECOMING QUEEN COMPETITION IN JULY 2002, AND TO WISH HER EVERY SUCCESS IN ALL OF HER FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, Miss Megan Dooley was crowned Homecoming Queen of Lexington High School in the fall of 2001; and

Whereas, late in 2001, Miss Dooley was asked to compete for the title of S.C. Homecoming Queen and in March 2002 competed in Charlotte, North Carolina where she competed against approximately 36 other queens from high schools across South Carolina. The competition consisted of interview, speech writing, public speaking, and evening gown; and

Whereas, Miss Dooley won the competition and was crowned the title "South Carolina's Homecoming Queen". In addition to her banner and crown, she was given an "all expense paid" trip to compete in the national competition of "America's Homecoming Queen" in Anaheim, California (Disneyland) in July 2002; and

Whereas, Miss Dooley traveled to California, along with 15 loyal family members, where she competed against queens from 48 states. The overall competition involved interviews, speech writing, a video competition, and morning and evening-wear competitions; and

Whereas, Miss Dooley, among the last five remaining contestants, was asked to answer one question specifically formulated for her; and

Whereas, finally close to midnight on Wednesday, July 24, 2002, Miss Megan Marie Dooley won the competition and was crowned "America's Homecoming Queen", becoming the first person from Lexington, South Carolina to win the state title as well as the first person from South Carolina to win the prestigious national title; and

Whereas, America's Homecoming Queen began in 1981 and is a very unique Selection because participation is by invitation only. It is a Tennessee-based non-profit organization promoting education, educational travel, and community service for high school homecoming queens in all fifty states and selects a young woman from each state to participate in America's Homecoming Queen Selection. Each state Selection is not a beauty pageant, but rather an ambassadorship to represent her state at the national Selection. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, congratulate Megan Marie Dooley of Lexington, South Carolina, upon winning the coveted crown and title of the "South Carolina Homecoming Queen" in the America's Homecoming Queen competition in July 2002, and to wish her every success in all of her future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Miss Megan Marie Dooley.
