A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

EXPRESSING THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO MRS. MARY LOIS SHIVERS OF RICHLAND COUNTY ON THE OCCASION OF HER SEVENTY-FIFTH BIRTHDAY ON MARCH 1, 2003, AND WISHING FOR HER MANY HAPPY RETURNS OF THE DAY.

Whereas, Mrs. Mary Lois Shivers was married to the late Clark Shivers for over fifty-three years and together they had three children: the late Jimmy Shivers, Reverend Frank Shivers, and Linda S. Bleckley; and

Whereas, Mary Lois Shivers has been a licensed beautician for over forty years, and has also been very active in community projects during this time as evidenced by her service as the chairperson of the Capital View area neighborhood association (Eastview), as a director in the Lower Richland Crime Alliance, as a charter member of the Citizens Academy that is sponsored by Richland County Sheriff's Department, her involvement in the Lower Richland School Improvement program, her membership in the Lower Richland Order of Eastern Star, Chapter No. 295, and her charter membership in Temple Baptist Church, where she is deeply involved in many church activities, especially the "Temple Rays", a senior citizen group of ladies and gentlemen; and

Whereas, her community service is further exemplified by her service as chairperson of the church's bereavement committee, having formed the "Helping Hands" committee to help needy, ill children and her dedication to Camp Longridge, a Christian camp for children; and

Whereas, Mary Lois Shivers has been recognized by her church, her community, both the South Carolina House of Representatives and Senate, by Governor Jim Hodges, who in May of 2000, awarded her with the Order of the Silver Crescent, and by the Richland County Council by a resolution in April of 2002; and

Whereas, friends and family of Mary Lois Shivers avow that anyone who has a problem or a worthy cause will receive help from this cherished daughter of South Carolina. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of South Carolina, by this resolution, express their congratulations to Mrs. Mary Lois Shivers of Richland County on the occasion of her seventy-fifth birthday on March 1, 2003, and wish for her many happy returns of the day.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Mary Lois Shivers.
