A JOINT RESOLUTION

TO PROVIDE THAT SCHOOL DAYS MISSED IN 2002-2003, BY THE STUDENTS OF THE SCHOOL DISTRICT OF CHESTER COUNTY WHEN THE SCHOOLS WERE CLOSED DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER CONDITIONS MAY BE MADE UP BY EXEMPTING THEM FROM THE MAKE-UP REQUIREMENT OF THE DEFINED MINIMUM PLAN THAT FULL SCHOOL DAYS MISSED DUE TO EXTREME WEATHER OR OTHER CIRCUMSTANCES BE MADE UP, AUTHORIZE EXTENDING THE LENGTH OF SCHOOL DAYS OR MAKE-UP DAYS ON SATURDAYS, OR AUTHORIZE THE DISTRICT TO USE COMBINATIONS OF THESE AS APPROPRIATE FOR A PARTICULAR SCHOOL, AND TO REQUIRE THE PLANS CHOSEN TO BE APPROVED BY THE COUNTY BOARD OF TRUSTEES.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    (A) Up to three school days missed in 2002-2003, by the students of the School District of Chester County when the schools were closed due to inclement weather conditions may be made up by:

(1)    exempting them from the make-up requirement of the defined minimum plan that full school days missed due to extreme weather or other circumstances be made up;

(2)    extending the length of currently scheduled school days equivalent to the amount of time found in a normal instructional day;

(3)    attending school on Saturdays; or

(4)    using a combination of items (1), (2), and (3) which may be selected as an appropriate choice for a particular school.

(B)    Individual school plans are subject to the approval of the county board of trustees.

SECTION    2.    This joint resolution takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
