THE COMMITTEE ON EDUCATION AND PUBLIC WORKS

To whom was referred a Bill (H. 4165) to amend Section 59-5-10, Code of Laws of South Carolina, 1976, relating to the composition of the State Board of Education, so as to add, etc., respectfully

REPORT:

That they have duly and carefully considered the same and recommend that the same do pass with amendment:

Amend the bill, as and if amended, by striking all after the enacting words and inserting:

/ SECTION    1.    Section 59-5-10 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding a new paragraph at the end to read:

"In addition to the other members of the State Board of Education required by law, there must be an additional nonvoting member to be appointed by the Governor for a term of two years. This member must be the Commander, or his designee, of a military installation headquartered in the State. Should a vacancy occur due to military transfer, a replacement from the same installation must be made to serve the unexpired term."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor. /

Renumber sections to conform.

Amend title to conform.

A BILL

TO AMEND SECTION 59-5-10, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO THE COMPOSITION OF THE STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION, SO AS TO ADD A NONVOTING MEMBER TO BE APPOINTED BY THE GOVERNOR TO REPRESENT THE MILITARY COMMUNITY.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Section 59-5-10 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding a new paragraph at the end to read:

"In addition to the other members of the State Board of Education required by law, there shall be an additional nonvoting member to be appointed by the Governor for a term of four years and until his successor is appointed and qualifies to represent the military community."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
